My name is Henry King. Man of String is my personal blog about creativity, innovation and anything else that happens to catch my fancy
I am deeply interested in the accomplishments of highly creative people. Actually, it's more than just interest, it's also inspiration. From choreographers to architects, chefs to engineers, fashion designers to mathematicians, the best in their fields inspire me to think more deeply, see more clearly, and to try to express myself more fully. This blog is a part of that effort, to challenge myself to write regularly, to share things that I find compelling in some way, and hopefully to inspire others in their own search for expression and impact. Man of String is therefore a highly personal account and should not be construed as reflecting the points of view of my colleagues, clients or employers
Work-wise I am an independent innovation consultant, working with organizations big and small, across a wide range of industries, to generate and develop innovation strategies, opportunity spaces, concepts and capabilities. I am also a part time faculty member and design council member of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Previously I was a member of the commercial leadership team at Doblin, an innovation strategy firm and member of The Monitor Group, with responsibility for heading up some of the firm’s most valued accounts and for leading the development of new methods, tools and techniques
Prior to joining Doblin I held the CIO role at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the architecture firm, and earlier at various technology startups, ecommerce dotcoms, and professional services organizations. I previously spent 12 years with Accenture and Deloitte Consulting where I led large scale IT strategy and systems development projects in Europe, USA, S.E. Asia and the Middle East
I also provided advisory services to a number of highly creative individuals, including the futurist John Naisbitt and the artist Miroslaw Rogala. I hold MA and BA honors degrees in Classical Greek and Latin Studies from Oxford University, England
I live in Chicago with my wife Sarah and our two sons, Alex and William
